I was there too, and had a fine time. A little upset that the doors opened late and the supposed "guests" on the performers list never materialized, but that's really the only complaint I have. Beans was certainly a fine performer, talking to the audience, speaking about some of his past tracks, some of the new tracks, hyping his album a little, and doing a pretty cool job for the whole show, despite simply playing stuff back from CD. I appreciated the fact that the mix was pretty even so you could actually hear what he was saying, which can be rare in the live hip-hop scene. And yeah, I felt pretty much the same way about Prefuse's keyboard antics -- someone towards the front mentioned to some other guy that the Voyager (you can tell it's a voyager by the blue-lit mod/pitch wheels) was new -- Scott had only had it a few weeks. Apparently he hadn't gotten much time to practice because it went mostly unused. But he definitely played the crowd well, played tracks that you could dance, bop, or just nod to easily, and was overall more music-oriented instead of choppy-vocal oriented, which is always nice to hear. I personally felt that beans was a better performance, if only because he was rapping and moving and talking to the crowd (and screwed up once during a beatless rap, and it's always nice to hear someone say "oops!", smile, and fix it ;D), and Prefuse was the better musician, as the music was more dynamic and funky. So, really, I'd say it was a great night, and I'd recommend it to anyone in a city they're touring in. -- eggytoast.com - eggtastic.com ------ it's in your grocer's freezer --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
